A Jeddah-bound Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 186 passengers diverted to Chennai on Monday following a mid-air technical issue. Flight MH156 encountered a problem involving its No. 2 engine and made a safe emergency landing at Chennai Airport after a full emergency was declared, according to news agency PTI.

Mid-Air Engine Issue
The aircraft was operating on the Kuala Lumpur-Jeddah route when a technical issue was detected in its second engine. The pilot subsequently alerted Chennai Air Traffic Control and requested an emergency landing.

In response, airport authorities activated emergency response arrangements, positioning ambulances, fire tenders, and CISF personnel to handle the situation.
No Injuries Reported
The plane landed safely, and all passengers were evacuated while ground staff offloaded their baggage. No injuries were reported during the incident.
"Further assessment of the aircraft and the technical issue is being carried out by the airline and relevant technical teams," a spokesperson said, according to PTI. Airport functioning remained unaffected by the incident and normal operations continued.
Similar Incident
This incident comes days after another aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine-related problem. On Tuesday, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight returned to Goa airport after a technical issue was detected in one of its engines. Flight 6E 2102 took off at 9:16 AM, but was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff when the fault emerged, leading Air Traffic Control to declare a full emergency at around 9:30 AM.

The plane landed safely at 9:51 AM. Authorities lifted the emergency status at 10:03 AM, allowing all passengers to disembark and move to the boarding area.
