Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan said, "The brutal, heinous rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor in Kolkata has shaken and shocked the conscience of the entire nation. The prime minister yesterday in his Independence Day speech expressed pain and said, this is a demonic act and urged the state governments to act immediately and take action. The West Bengal model has become one of mobocracy and anarchy. When India is marching, brightly in its 78th year of independence, West Bengal is gripped by a dangerous darkness. This is due to a complete breakdown of administrative and security in the state. So we are here to demand why the chief minister, Mamata Banerjee and the health minister have not resigned...."

There can be "no room for politics" when it comes to the rape and killing of the junior doctor, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Friday, August 16, 2024, in response to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's accusation that the opposition parties were responsible for the vandalism at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Mr Pradhan said that the Chief Minister's attempt to conceal, suppress criticism, and protect criminals raises major concerns.
According to the police, 19 persons have been detained thus far in relation to the violence and destruction at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as of Friday. A city court remanded those who had been arrested to police custody until August 22, according to authorities.
Amid nighttime demonstrations by women throughout West Bengal over the rape and murder of a doctor in the hospital's lecture hall on August 9, miscreants vandalised the hospital's emergency ward, nursing station, pharmaceutical store, and portions of the outpatient department on Thursday.
