On Wednesday, visitors were having a blast participating in a variety of adventurous activities and playing in the snow from the Nehru Kund to the Solang Nala area near Manali. Until Solang Nala, only 4x4 vehicles are permitted due to snow accumulation on the road beyond Nehru Kund.
Last year, a similar sight was visible at several places in Himachal Pradesh as hoards of people travelled towards hill stations ahead of Christmas and New Year's Eve. In videos published by news agency ANI, traffic can be seen snarling on roads around popular winter holiday destinations like Shimla and Manali.

Traffic jams are a common occurrence in the area because Manali is a popular tourist destination. Many people come here specifically in the winter to experience snowfall and to spend time with friends and family during the holiday season.
According to an ANI report from December, Shimla police anticipated a massive influx of tourists in advance of the year-end celebrations.
Speaking to ANI, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Shimla, said, “The police are expecting over one lakh tourist vehicles to roll into the hill town in the last week of this year."
"Police brace for myriad challenges as the seasons change in Shimla. The number of vehicles in the city has been increasing on weekends," he added.
