Manipur Violence: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel laid his life in the line of duty after a gunfight erupted between miscreants and security forces in Manipur's Jiribam on Sunday. Another CRPF man and two commandos of Manipur police sustained bullet injuries. The gunfight took place in Mongbung and Seijang villages of Jiribam district when miscreants and joint parties of state and central security forces exchanged fire on Sunday morning.
A CRPF driver lost his life in the incident after a bullet hit him on his forehead, Hindustan Times reported. The fallen soldier has been identified as Ajay Kumar Jha, 43, a resident of Bihar.
Jha was taken to Jiribam District Hospital after being evacuated from the spot, however, doctors declared him dead on arrival. A bullet hit one more CRPF jawan in the leg. Two Manipur commandos also sustained bullet injuries. The injured have been rescued and are getting treatment at the Jiribam district hospital.

The firing started at 9:30 am and stopped after two hours, around 11:30 am on Sunday.
Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, condemned the attack by the armed group. He said that the miscreants were suspected to be Kukis.
"I strongly condemn the killing of a CRPF personnel in an attack carried out by an armed group, suspected to be Kuki militants, in Jiribam district today. His supreme sacrifice in the line of duty shall not go in vain. I further extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased soldier, while praying for the speedy recovery of the ones injured during the attack," N Biren Singh said in a post on X.

Earlier, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi visited the violence-hit Manipur, where he met victims of the ethnic strife living in various relief camps. After the visit, Rahul Gandhi said his party and the INDIA bloc would strongly raise the issue of Manipur in the parliament.
