Manipur: In a shocking incident, a 'mentally challenged' minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Manipur's Churachandpur district. The officials on Saturday said the girl's body was found in a forest in Thanlon sub-division of the district on April 11. Police arrested a suspect in the case and an investigation was underway.
"The girl had gone to collect firewood at a forest in the Leijangphai area on Friday. As she did not return, her father became concerned and went to the forest," they said.
Her body was found with the clothes torn and injury marks on the body, officials added.
Third sexual assault of minor girls in less than a month
This is the third incident in the violence-hit Churachandpur district involving sexual assault of minor girls in less than a month.
Earlier this month, a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an underaged boy in Churachandpur district.
Another case was reported last month in which a nine-year-old girl was found dead in the vicinity of a relief camp for internally displaced people in the Churachandpur district.
The girl's body was found with an injury mark on her neck and bloodstains around the body. Her parents and civil society organisations including Zomi Mothers' Association had alleged the girl was murdered after she was sexually assaulted.
Arms, ammunitions recovered from various districts
In the last few days, Manipur has witnessed a significant boost in security operations, with forces conducting search and area domination exercises in vulnerable hill and valley districts. The security forces have made key recoveries across the state.
"One 9 mm SMG with three magazines, one Double Barrel Gun, one. 32 Pistol loaded with three live rounds in the magazine, four nos. of No. 36 Hand Grenade with four Arming Rings, 10 nos. of Detonator, two nos. of MK12T Explosive, four nos. of Tube Launching, three nos. of Magazines, 51 nos. of live ammunition, one no. of Radio set, one no. of Vehicular set microphone, 74 nos. of empty case, two nos. of Patka Helmet and two nos. of BP Jacket from Pukhao Ahallup western river bank under Sagolmang-PS, Imphal East District," According to an official press note from the Manipur Police.
