Manipur's Thoubal witnessed a massive protest on Tuesday with hundreds of women gathering to demand the release of two students abducted by Kuki miscreants. The Meitei women also blocked the road urging the authorities to act swiftly to bring back the duo.
The protests erupted after a disturbing video surfaced which showed two young men, from the Meitei-dominated area, in apparent captivity pleading for their safe return to the Chief Minister of Manipur. The clip caused immediate reaction from the Meitei community, which took to the roads to demand the authorities to act swiftly, with a few protestors even calling out to Prime Minister Modi for the return of the students.
"We are protesting for the release of the abducted kids who are with the Kuki group. We request Prime Minister Modi and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to ensure their safe return," a protestor, who was present at the spot said, as quoted by NDTV.
Please Accept Their Demands
In the alleged video, the Meitei students were seen pleading to the state government to treat them as their 'sons' and urging officials to accept the demands of the captors.
As per reports, three students went missing while they were travelling for the SSC GD recruitment exam being held in New Keithelmanbi on September 27. As no contact could be established with them even after two days, an intense search started leading to the recovery of one of the students by the Indian Army.
While Ningombam Johnson Singh was rescued, Oinam Thoithoi Singh and Thokchom Thoithoiba Singh still remain missing.
The Chief Minister convened a meeting with all MLAs to address the situation in the violence-hit state and discuss the rescue of individuals, whom he alleged were abducted by "Kuki militants."
