A video of a burning man making the rounds across social media platforms has created a stir in strife-hit Manipur. The clip was allegedly shot on May 4, the same day when two women were paraded naked in the violence-torn northeast state, news agency PTI reported.

The seven-second clip shows a dead man donning a T-shirt and camouflage trousers being burnt amid heavy gunshots in the background.
An official confirmed that the incident was verified by them and it happened on May 4. “We have verified the incident and found out that it had happened on May 4. The body has been identified and it is now in a hospital. It is linked to the incident of two women being paraded naked," PTI reported Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh as saying.
Kuldeep said the deceased was a resident of a village in Kangpokpi district but refrained from disclosing the location where the incident took place.
Director General of Police Rajiv Singh recommended a CBI probe into the incident as the central probe agency was already investigating many cases in the backdrop of Manipur strife, the Security Advisor said.
ITLF, a Tribal body of the state, condemned the incident calling it ‘shocking and barbaric’.
An ethnic violence erupted between Kuki and Maitei group in India’s north-eastern state on May 3 this year. A 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the 10 hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. This was the initiation point of the unrest which is still far from over. As many as 175 people have lost their lives in violence-related incidents.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley, while tribals, which include Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 per cent and reside mainly in the hill districts.
