Manipur News:  Following the fresh bout of violence in Manipur, which has claimed several lives, Congress and opposition parties have started attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to secure peace in the northeastern state, which remained on the boil for over a year. Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday took a jibe at PM, saying that he does not want to control the violence in Manipur.

Drawing a comparison between Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi, Kharge lashed, saying while Rahul visited Manipur and carried Bharat Jodo Yatra there, the PM is touring the world - a hit at Prime Minister's three-nation official visit which started Saturday.

"Prime Minister Modi does not want to control the violence in Manipur. Violence has been going on in Manipur for years. Rahul Gandhi went to Manipur and did Bharat Jodo Yatra there...but Prime Minister Modi is travelling around the world," Kharge said while addressing reporters in poll-bound Maharashtra.

Opposition's criticism followed several incidents of violence in the state embroiled in the ethnic violence between majority Meitei and minority Kuki communities. In a recent incident, which highlighted the precarious public safety concerns, six people - three women and three children - were found dead, days after they were kidnapped by militants from an opposing ethnic group.

The incident sparked protests in the state, with members of the Meitei community taking to the roads and even forcefully entering the houses of legislators.

Hitting out at PM Modi on the Jiribam violence, Kharge further said that he was not concerned about the nation but rather about election campaigning and saving his government.

"He is not concerned about the nation, he is only concerned about election campaigning and saving his chair...In Maharashtra, Prime Minister Modi abuses the Congress..." Kharge said.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi also lashed at the centre for failing to control violence in Manipur. In an X post, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha urged PM Modi to visit the state.

"The recent string of violent clashes and continuing bloodshed in Manipur is deeply disturbing. After more than a year of division and suffering, it was the hope of every Indian that the Central and State governments would have made every effort at reconciliation and found a solution. I urge the PM once again to visit Manipur and work towards restoring peace and healing in the region," Rahul wrote.
