The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday released figures of Indians deported from the United States since President Donald Trump assumed office.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 1,563 Indian nationals have been deported since January 20, with most of them having been sent on commercial flights.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Jaiswal said, "Since 20 January of this year, till yesterday, some 1563 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States so far. Most of these Indian nationals have come by commercial flight".

As per the MEA, in March, 636 Indians had already been deported earlier in 2025. Out of them, 240 arrived on commercial flights.

The deportation figures coincide with the Trump administration's heightened scrutiny of immigration enforcement. The United States has issued new directives, according to which, high scrutiny of social media accounts of all visa applicants is being conducted.

The MEA spokesperson also shed light on the ongoing issue of Nimisha Priya, who is facing execution in Yemen. Jaiswal said that the government has been offering all possible assistance. He said, "The government of India has been offering all possible assistance. We have provided legal assistance and appointed a lawyer to assist the family. We are also in touch with local authorities and her family to resolve this issue. We are also in touch with some friendly governments in this regard."

He further added that the government had made “concerted efforts in recent days to seek more time for the family of Nimisha Priya to reach a mutually agreeable solution with the other party.” As a result, Yemeni authorities have deferred her execution.
