Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Days after the shocking murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, his family performed his pind daan — a traditional Hindu ritual on the banks of the Kshipra River in Ujjain on Friday. Among those present was Sonam Raghuvanshi’s brother, Govind, who made a startling remark about his sister’s relationship with co-accused Raj Kushwaha.
“Had I known, I would have gotten them married or I would have let her run away with Raj Kushwaha,” Govind told Live Hindustan, referring to Sonam’s secret relationship before her marriage to Raja. He claimed he was unaware of their affair and said the tragedy could have been avoided had the truth come out earlier.
Raja and Sonam were married on May 11, and left for their honeymoon to Shillong on May 20. What began as a celebration turned into a national headline when Raja was reported missing just days later. Meghalaya Police later confirmed that Raja had been lured to a remote location and allegedly murdered as part of a conspiracy involving Sonam, her lover Raj Kushwaha, and three others: Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi.
Speaking alongside Raja’s grieving family, Govind expressed sorrow and solidarity. “I have come with Raja’s family to perform his last rites… they are like my brother’s family,” he said. When asked about his sister's involvement, Govind did not hold back: “If she is found guilty, she should be given the death penalty.”

Describing Sonam’s nature, he added, “She was stubborn and short-tempered. There was never any pressure from our side. If she didn’t want to marry, she could have said so. What she did is unforgivable. She hasn’t just shamed Indore, but the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.”
Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, confirmed that Govind had reached out to join the last rites. “We told him he could come. It was his sister’s mistake, after all,” he said.

Raja's disappearance was reported on May 23 from Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills. The investigation soon led authorities to suspect Sonam’s involvement. She and her alleged accomplices were arrested from various locations, including Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, where Sonam was last seen at a roadside eatery on June 9 before surrendering to police.
Raja’s body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. Police say the murder was premeditated and motivated by Sonam’s ongoing relationship with Raj Kushwaha. The accused have reportedly confessed to the crime, and investigations are still underway.
