Meghalaya Woman Beaten With Sticks, Dragged Over Alleged Extramarital Affair, 5 Arrested After Video Goes Viral

Meghalaya Viral Video: A woman in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district was brutally assaulted by four men who accused her of having an extramarital affair. The incident was captured on video and has gone viral on social media, prompting the authorities to take immediate action.

The incident took place in the Lower Teksagre area of the Dadenggre region, where the victim was allegedly beaten with sticks and forcefully dragged on the ground by her hair. The viral clip shows a man striking the woman repeatedly with a stick, while other individuals join in, kicking and hitting her as she lies helpless on the ground.

Eyewitnesses, including women, elderly men and children, stood by and witnessed the act, failing to intervene and prevent the assault. The accused individuals reportedly alleged that the woman was involved in an extramarital affair, which they claimed while justifying their actions.

In response to the incident, the local authorities have taken immediate action. Five individuals have been arrested and a case has been registered under the relevant sections. The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment, led by Chairperson Santa Mary Shylla, has taken cognizance of the matter and sought a report from the police.

Shylla has also directed the Superintendent of Police in all 12 districts of Meghalaya to remain alert and take immediate action against any crimes committed against women.
