A video of Mizoram's first-ever railway line, the Bairabi-Sairang broad-gauge project inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (Sept 13), has gone viral. The clip, shared on Instagram with the title 'Indians Have Zero Civic Sense', shows the Sairang railway station littered with garbage and leftover food. The official RailwaySeva X account also reacted to the video.
The user named Udesh Das shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “ Disheartening sight at Sairang Railway Station, Mizoram, just inaugurated yesterday! Let's take pride in keeping our stations clean. A plea to all Indians: Let's maintain cleanliness & respect our public spaces.”
In the video, Das can be heard saying the lack of civic sense, pointing out that the station remains dirty and still has the inauguration carpets in place.

“Look at this. This is the condition of the railway station after 24 hours of inauguration. People have littered everywhere. Who eats and leaves [plates] likes this. I am angry with my people. This is why Indians are abused abroad. The inauguration took place yesterday. They place dustbins everywhere during these events, but people are littering everywhere," he added.
"This is not just about this station. It's about our civic sense. This is a national shame.”
Indian Railway Response
After the video went viral and netizens reaction on it Indian Railways responded and informed that the issue had been escalated, whilst tagging the official account of the Divisional Railway Manager of the Lumding Division.

"For necessary action escalated to the concerned official @Drm_lmg_nfr," read the statement.
Mizoram's First-Ever (Bairabi-Sairang) Railway Line
1. Mizoram was connected to Kolkata by rail for the first time with the inauguration of the Bairabi-Sairang railway line on Friday, September 13.
2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the new Sairang–Kolkata Express during his visit to the state.
3. The service is expected to boost trade and tourism in the Northeast region.
4. The train, numbered 13125 and 13126, will cover a distance of 1,530 kilometres in about 31 hours and 15 minutes.

5. Operated by the Eastern Railway zone, the train will pass through major stations such as Naihati, Krishnanagar City and Murshidabad.
