Mizoram Weather: Heavy rainfall continued to batter Mizoram for the third day, forcing the closure of all schools in Aizawl district on Friday for the second day in a row. The hilly northeastern state has been witnessing persistent downpours since Wednesday, causing widespread disruption and triggering landslides across various regions.

"Due to heavy inundation of rainfall in the past several hours in Aizawl district, all schools within Aizawl district have been instructed to declare holiday on Friday," read a notification issued by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman, Lalhriatpuia.

Among the affected districts, Lawngtlai recorded the highest rainfall at 112.50 mm, followed by Serchhip with 70 mm, Kolasib with 63.70 mm, and Aizawl with 63.60 mm.

According to officials from the State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, landslides have been reported in Aizawl and other parts of Mizoram, blocking several highways. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

In one such incident early Friday, a landslide swept away an Assam-type building in Mauchar village, located in Aizawl district near the borders of Assam and Manipur. Authorities confirmed that no one was harmed in the incident.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a warning predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, from May 29 to June 1.
