New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Following the demise of BJP stalwart and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, PM Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Arun Jaitley’s wife and son, and expressed his condolences. Both of them insisted that PM should not cancel his current foreign tour.

Condoling the sad demise of the former finance minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a series of tweets said:

Arun Jaitley Ji was a political giant, towering intellectual and legal luminary. He was an articulate leader who made a lasting contribution to India. His passing away is very saddening. Spoke to his wife Sangeeta Ji as well as son Rohan, and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.

Full of life, blessed with wit, a great sense of humour and charisma, Arun Jaitley Ji was admired by people across all sections of society. He was multi-faceted, having impeccable knowledge about India’s Constitution, history, public policy, governance and administration.

With the demise of Arun Jaitley Ji, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters had very few parallels. He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. We will miss him!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who have just completed his trip to France, is currently visiting UAE, and will move to Bahrain for bilateral meetings that will focus on issues ranging from defence and security cooperation to energy security and the Indo-Pacific.

After completing his visits to the UAE and Bahrain, Modi will jet back to France to attend the outreach session of the G7 Summit in Biarritz.

 

Arun Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on August 9 after he complained of palpitations and restlessness. Arun Jaitley passed away on Saturday after suffering from kidney ailment. He was 66.
