Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Mohan Yadav on Wednesday took oath as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister. The mega event in Bhopal was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of the saffron party. BJP leaders Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla took oath as the Deputy Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, in Bhopal.

Yadav replaced BJP stalwart Shivraj Chouhan, who helmed the state for over 16 years.

After hanging fire for days following its electoral victory in the three Hindi heartland states, the BJP on Monday announced Mohan Yadav as its CM candidate. Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda have been chosen as the deputy chief ministers in the state.

 

Soon after the announcement, Yadav thanked the state and central leadership for the opportunity. "I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfil my responsibilities," he said.

Besides, Narendra Singh Tomar was appointed as the legislative assembly speaker.

In Chhattisgarh, meanwhile, Vishnu Deo Sai, a four-time Lok Sabha MP and three-time state BJP chief will be sworn in as the CM at the Science College ground in Raipur. Both the BJP picks came as a surprise to many, with the party picking fresh faces instead of seasoned leaders.

BJP registered a mammoth victory in three Hindi heartland states on December 3. The saffron party garnered 163 of 230 seats in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.
