Weather News: As the Southwest Monsoon continues its steady progress across the India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued updates on the advancing monsoon fronts and the weather forecast for various regions. According to IMD, the monsoon is expected to advance into many parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the northwestern Bay of Bengal, some areas of Gangetic West Bengal, the remaining parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and certain regions of Bihar over the next four to five days.
Mumbai Weather Today
Closer to the western coast, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning in Mumbai. A meteorologist on the social media platform X has stated that intermittent showers accompanied by isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over the next two to three days due to weak monsoon winds. However, as the monsoon winds gain strength, the rainfall is expected to increase gradually from June 19 to 20.
Looking at the weather forecast for Mumbai, the city can expect a mix of cloudy skies and rain from June 17 to June 21. On June 17, the city is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with light rain, with temperatures ranging from 27 degrees Celsius to 34 degrees Celsius. The following day, June 18, will see similar conditions with moderate rain and temperatures between 26 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.
Chennai Weather Today
Meanwhile, the southern state of Tamil Nadu, Chennai and its surrounding areas are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall during the evening and night hours for the next two days, with cloudy skies providing some relief from the heat. Weather blogger K Srikanth has stated that isolated thunderstorms would persist over parts of north Tamil Nadu, with the possibility of heavy rains in some areas of Chennai and its suburbs.
Fishermen in the region have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea until June 18 due to strong winds over the Gulf of Mannar and the south Tamil Nadu coast.
Pune Rain Today
Additionally, Pune and its neighbouring areas may witness light rainfall over the next four to five days, but no heavy rainfall is expected. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is expected to be between 33-34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be in the range of 23-25 degrees Celsius.

Heavy Rain In Northeastern States
In the northeastern states, the IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya during the next three to four days. Widespread light to moderate rainfall is also likely to occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, over the next seven days.
