People across north India are reeling under severe heatwave conditions. Not only the plains of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab but also many districts of the hilly states, including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, are experiencing heatwave conditions. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for both of these states. Respite from the heatwave is unlikely in Delhi as an orange alert has been issued for the next three days.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 44.6 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees above the seasonal average. Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail on Sunday as well.
In Punjab, heatwave and severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist until June 18. On Saturday, Abohar recorded the highest temperature at 47.1 degrees Celsius, which was 8.5 degrees Celsius above normal.
J-K, Himachal Reeling Under Scorching Heat:
In Himachal Pradesh, the maximum temperature in Neri, Hamirpur, on Friday was 46.7 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature ever recorded in the state. In Uttarakhand, the maximum temperature in Dehradun was recorded at 42.4 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave continues to affect Jammu as well. In the Jammu division, the highest temperature was recorded in Kathua district at 46.5 degrees Celsius. According to Mukhtar, Director of the Meteorological Department, the heatwave in Jammu is expected to continue until June 20.
Bihar Weather:
In Bihar, as many as 13 persons were killed in three districts due to the severe heat on Saturday, Jagran.com reported. The deceased include five people from Aurangabad district, three each from Saran and Gaya, and one each from Rohtas and Bhojpur. On Saturday, the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Buxar at 46.0 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the maximum temperature in Gaya, Dehri (Sasaram), and Bhojpur was recorded at 45.5 degrees Celsius.
Southwest Monsoon:
The southwest monsoon entered Gujarat four days ago but failed to progress further into other parts of the state due to adverse conditions. An official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided this information on Saturday. Ramashray Yadav, a scientist at the Ahmedabad Meteorological Center, stated that the southwest monsoon arrived in Navsari, South Gujarat, on June 11. He explained that the southwest monsoon typically enters Gujarat on June 15 and advances to other parts, including some areas of Ahmedabad and Saurashtra, by June 20. By June 25, the monsoon usually covers most parts of Saurashtra.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast light thunderstorms in various locations across several districts of the state over the next five days.
Rain Alert:
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected in the northeastern part of India on Monday and Tuesday. The IMD has issued orange and red alerts for some states. The IMD stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next two days in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Additionally, the Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms with lightning in some parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next five days.
