Sakat Chauth 2026 Moonrise Time Today: The first Sankashti Chaturthi of 2026 is being observed on Tuesday, January 6. Also known as Sakat Chauth or Angarki Sankashti Chaturthi, the day is considered highly auspicious for devotees of Lord Ganesha, who observe a fast and offer prayers to seek relief from obstacles and problems.

Sankashti Chaturthi is also called Sankat Chauth, Til-Kuta Chauth, Vakra-Tundi Chaturthi and Maghi Chauth in different regions. In Maharashtra, devotees celebrate the festival as Lambodara Sankashti Chaturthi. Along with Lord Ganesha, Goddess Sakat is also worshipped on this day. It is believed that prayers offered on Sankashti Chaturthi bring prosperity, peace and happiness.

Devotees usually wake up early, take a ritual bath and observe a fast throughout the day. The fast is broken only after moonrise in the evening, following prayers and offerings.

Rituals To Follow

During the evening puja, devotees anoint Lord Ganesha’s idol with Gangajal and offer flowers, incense sticks, a diya and bhog. Chanting the Atharvashirsha 21 times or reciting “Om Gam Ganpataye Namaha” 108 times is considered auspicious. The fast is completed after sighting the moon and offering prayers.
