In a shocking incident, a three-day-old newborn was dumped by his parents under a heavy rock in the Nandanwadi forest of Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district. The couple allegedly feared losing the father's government job as a teacher under the state’s two-child policy. The baby was the couple’s fourth child.
The baby endured a tough night of cold, insect bites, and near-suffocation in the forest. The child was rescued after the villagers were alerted by the baby’s cries. They had discovered his tiny limbs struggling beneath the stone.
Bablu Dandoliya, a government school teacher, and his wife Rajkumari made the decision to abandon their newborn, also their fourth child, out of fear of losing Bablu’s job. Aware of state rules that discourage government employees from having more than two children, the couple allegedly concealed the pregnancy, police said as per an NDTV report.
“His survival is nothing short of miraculous,” a pediatrician said, as quoted by NDTV. “Exposure overnight in this condition is usually fatal,” the doctor added. The baby is under supervision and out of danger.
A case has been filed under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for child abandonment.
“We are consulting senior officers. Further sections, including 109 BNS (attempt to murder), may be added after legal review,” SDOP Kalyani Barkade said, as per the report.
