  3. Driver ignored warnings, attempted to cross overflowing road.

A tragic accident occurred in Padana town of Rajgarh district after a car carrying 11 people was swept away by a drain overflowing across the road. The vehicle was carrying four children, four women and three men, who were travelling to a religious site in Kadanavad village in Sarangpur tehsil.

According to the information, 11 members of a family from Satwas village in Dewas district were travelling in an Eco car to visit a religious place in Kadanavad village in Sarangpur tehsil of Rajgarh district. There were four children, four women and three men in the car.

When the car reached Padana bypass, a drain was flowing at full speed. Due to the strong current, water had risen significantly over the road. Instead of stopping the car, the driver attempted to cross the flooded stretch. However, the vehicle could not withstand the force of the water, lost control and was swept into the drain within moments.

After the accident, two men were rescued with the help of residents. The body of a three-year-old child was recovered first. By around 1:45 PM, the bodies of seven people, including women and children, had been recovered. Two youths, Mukesh and Hukum Singh, survived the accident.

Driver Could Not Distinguish Road From Drain

According to eyewitnesses, the drain water was flowing so heavily across the road that the driver could not distinguish between the road and the drain. In the confusion, the car lost control and instead of remaining on the road, moved directly into the drain.

The vehicle sank into the drain within minutes. The strong current gave the passengers little time to escape, while locals also had limited opportunity to rescue them. The drain was very deep, and the car disappeared from view soon after it was swept away.

Locals said five or six people tried to stop the driver from crossing the flooded drain. They warned him that the current was very strong and could lead to an accident.

тАЬDon't take the car out. Stay here and wait for a while. Once the rain stops, the flow will subside. Take the car out once the drain subsides,тАЭ they reportedly told the driver.

People nearby were also avoiding the flooded stretch at the time, but the driver did not listen and proceeded ahead. The car was then swept away by the current.

Relief And Rescue Operations Continue

After receiving information about the accident, rescue teams reached the spot and began relief and rescue operations. Police and administration teams, including the Sarangpur SDM and SDOP, were involved in the operation. Villagers also joined the rescue effort and used ropes to search the area.

After several hours of effort, the bodies of seven people were recovered, and the car was pulled out. The search for the remaining victims was ongoing. The seven recovered bodies were kept at Padana.

The car was being driven by Mukesh Nayak, a resident of Dhansad village. His brother, Bala Nayak, said he learnt about the accident around 11:30 AM when Mukesh called him from someone else's mobile phone.

тАЬHe told me the car had been swept away by the current. Mukesh and the other passengers had left Dhansad around 4 AM. Mukesh had bought a new car about six or seven months ago. As soon as I learned about it, I also headed to the scene via Ashta,тАЭ Bala said.
