Gwalior: A shocking incident came to light on Saturday morning in the Hazira police station area of Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, where a young woman allegedly attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol over herself during a property dispute.
The woman has been identified as Mamta Batham. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
According to reports, Batham had entered into an agreement to sell her house to a man identified as Kamal Kishore Rathore. It is alleged that Rathore began taking possession of the property without clearing the full payment.
Distressed and angered over the alleged dispute, Batham reportedly took the extreme step of pouring petrol on herself.
After receiving information about the incident, police from Hazira Police Station rushed to the spot, secured the area, and launched an investigation. Authorities said legal action is underway and that the viral video is being examined as key evidence in the case.
MP Man Kills Father, Hides Body for Six Months Before Dumping It in River
In a separate incident from Madhya Pradesh, a man allegedly murdered his father and concealed the body for nearly six months before dumping it in a river.
The gruesome murder of 45-year-old Udaybhan Singh Bundela came to light after police grew suspicious while investigating his 11-month disappearance, which had initially been reported by the victim's brother.
During the investigation, police recovered human remains from the Samla River.
Initially, the accused, Nitin, allegedly told relatives and neighbours that his father had gone to Mumbai for work.
However, investigators became suspicious after the remains were found near the deceased's farmland. Police recovered bones, clothes, and a blanket from the river and sent them for forensic examination. Based on the findings, Nitin was called in for questioning.
During interrogation, Nitin initially claimed that his father had died after a tractor accidentally fell on his head. He alleged that, out of fear, he hid the body inside a box at his home. Six months later, he and his uncle, Kalli alias Aspendra Singh, allegedly wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it into the Samla River.
However, forensic experts ruled out the possibility of such an accidental death. Following further questioning, Nitin allegedly confessed to the crime.
According to police, Nitin admitted that his father had given him Rs 40,000 to deposit a tractor loan instalment. When his father repeatedly asked him about the money, Nitin allegedly killed him in August 2025 by repeatedly striking him on the head with an axe while he was asleep on a cot inside their home.
After the murder, he allegedly hid the body in a box and continued telling relatives that his father had gone to Mumbai for work.
Around six months later, he reportedly informed his uncle, Kalli alias Aspendra Singh, about the crime. The two then allegedly wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it into the Samla River in an attempt to conceal the murder. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
