Mumbai Traffic Update: The Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) traffic police have banned heavy vehicles (10 wheelers or more) from entering the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway (NH 48) and Ghodbunder road in Thane during peak hours to ease traffic congestion, effective Friday.
When Will Heavy Vehicle Not Be Allowed Along NH 48, Godhbunder
Heavy vehicles (10 wheelers or more) will be barred from NH48 and Ghodbunder road during peak hours:
- Morning: 6 am to 10 am
- Evening: 5 pm to 9 pm
Why Mumbai Banned Heavy Vehicles On NH48, Godhbunder Road
To alleviate congestion caused by earlier restrictions, traffic police are banning heavy vehicles from NH48 and Ghodbunder Road. This applies to vehicles travelling from Gujarat to Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan, as well as those heading to Thane from Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander within the MBVV police jurisdiction.
According to experts, the highway NH48 is a crucial route for transporting goods between Gujarat and Mumbai, passing through Thane. However, the large number of trucks on this road, particularly those travelling long distances from Gujarat to Mumbai, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan, often causes significant congestion in the Thane area.
This congestion affects not just the trucks but also regular commuters and public transport, leading to traffic jams and delays.
Heavy vehicles on NH48 and Ghodbunder road will be stopped at designated points, including toll plazas and checkpoints like Sirsad Phata, Chimoti Naka, and Fountain Hotel.
These Vehicle Will Not Be Stopped
Certain vehicles are exempt from this restriction, including:
- Those carrying perishable goods
- Emergency services like fire brigades and ambulances
- Vehicles transporting oxygen and other essential medical supplies
- Other authorised essential service vehicles.
