Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express: In a major relief for the passengers travelling between Mumbai and Gujarat, the Western Railway has decided to increase the AC Chair Car coaches in Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express permanently.

The addition of coaches in Train No. 20901/20902 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express will be effective from Sunday.

The Western Railway, in an official X post, said, “To enhance passenger convenience and meet growing travel demand, Western Railway has decided to permanently add three additional AC Chair Car coaches to Train No. 20901/20902 Mumbai Central – Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express, effective from 11th May, 2025.”

The post was shared with an image of statement, adding, "As one of India’s premier express trains, this train offers a fast, comfortable, and efficient travel experienince with modern amenities. Known for its high-speed connectivity between Mumbai and Gandhinagar Capital, this augmentation will further enhance passenger capacity, directly adding an extra capacity of more than 85,000 passengers annually."

Existing coach status

Currently, Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express has 2 EC coaches, 14 AC Chair Car coaches.

The EC coaches have 52 seats each, while in AC Chair Car, C1 and C14 coaches have 44 seats each, while coaches C2 to C13 have 78 seats each. There are 1,128 seats in the train currently.

Introduced in September 2022, it was the third Vande Bharat Express in India. The Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat connects Mumbai Central, Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara Jn, Anand Jn, Ahmedabad Jn, and Gandhinagar Capital. Currently, it operates with train numbers 20901/20902 on six days of the week, except Wednesday.

Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express is a semi-high-speed train and is one of the fastest trains in the country. The train covers a distance of 520 km in just 6 hours and 25 minutes.
