Mumbai Tragedy: In a tragic incident that has unfolded during the Ganesh Chaturthi Visarjan in Mumbai, 1 person has been killed and 5 have been injured due to electrocution. The incident took place on the Khairani Road in the Sakinaka area at around 10:45 am while the procession was going on from the Gajanan Mitra Mandal. 

According to officials, as quoted by News18, “While lifting wires from the Ganapati trolley, a dangling electric wire accidentally touched the Ganpati idol, leading to six devotees near it getting electrocuted.”

The locals who were present on the spot rushed all the victims to the nearby medical facilities. According to the officials, all five are in stable condition at the Paramount Hospital, Sakinaka.

One of them, who was in a much more critical situation, 36-year-old Binu Sukumaran Kumaran, was rushed to the nearby civic-run Seven Hills Hospital, Andheri (East), and was declared dead upon arrival. 

4 Drown 13 Missing In Ganesh Chaturthi Visarjan

Several districts have also reported cases of drowning during the Ganesh Chaturthi Visarjan. At least four people were drowned and thirteen were reported missing in these incidents. In Pune district's Chakan area, four persons were swept away in different water bodies in three separate incidents, an official said as quoted by PTI.

“Two men were swept away in the Bhama river at Waki Khurd and another one at Shell Pimpalgaon. Another person slipped into a well at Birwadi in Pune rural,”  PTI quoted an official. He added that two bodies had been recovered while search operations were on for the other two.

Similar incidents have also been reported in the Nanded district, where three people were swept away in a river in Gadegaon. Reports of such mishap were reported from Nashik, Jalgaon, Thane and Amravati as well.

Meanwhile, people had come in large numbers for the Ganesh Chaturthi Visarjan across several places in the Finacial Capital of India. Amid chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, pudhchya varshi lavkar ya", a fervent wish for the deity’s early return next year, the devotees gave a grand farewell to Lord Ganesh.
