Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Friday issued a passenger advisory after flight operations were impacted due to a technical snarl in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) at Delhi, which supports air traffic control and flight planning.

In a statement, the airport said a technical issue at Delhi impacting the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) has disrupted operations at Mumbai Airport. Authorities are working to resolve the issue. The AMSS failure is impacting major airports, including Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, and other major international airports, as originating flights from Delhi to these airports are delayed.

Which Airports Have Issued Travel Advisories To Passengers?

Besides the Mumbai airport, the Jaipur International Airport has also issued an advisory to the passengers due to the ATC failure in Delhi. At least 15 flights were delayed due to the ATC failure in Delhi.

A similar situation unfolded at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport as well in Lucknow. Authorities urged passengers to keep in touch with their respective flight carriers to remain updated about current flight statuses.

Why Did The Technical Glitch Occur At IGIA?

According to the AAI, flight operations at the Delhi airport faced a major roadblock due to a technical glitch in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) which supports the ATC flight data. As a result, the Air Traffic Controllers are unable to get automatic plans of the incoming and outgoing flights since Thursday evening.

The glitch in the AMSS has also affected the Auto Track System (ATS), which automatically makes the flight plans to ensure a smooth takeoff and landing. With the ATS malfunction continuing, the ATC is making all these flight plans manually, which is leading to a slower flight movement on the ground and causing further delays.

The IGIA is the country’s busiest airport with over 1,500 flight movements daily.
