Monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc in Mumbai as six people died and one was injured after a chawl collapsed in Mumbai's Mankhurd area. A rescue operation is currently underway to remove debris and evacuate those trapped under it

The incident took place at around 8:30 pm in Block 4, Janta Nagar, behind the Hanuman Temple in Mankhurd. As per preliminary information, a ground-plus-three-storey structure collapsed due to prolonged and heavy rainfall, trapping several residents under the debris.
4 Women, 2 Men Dead
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that four women and a man were "brought dead" to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital from the mishap site. Another man was declared dead at BMC-run Rajawadi Hospital.
They added that another injured man was being treated at the Rajawadi Hospital. News agency PTI reported that two to three tenements forming part of the three-storey structure caved in. Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BMC ward office and 108 ambulance services promptly arrived at the site and initiated a rescue and relief operation.
Rescue operation affected due to rain
The officials said that search and rescue operations were continuing to ascertain if more people were trapped under the debris.
Speaking about the rescue operation, local BJP corporator Navnath Ban said that one more person is still feared trapped under the debris but the operation was facing challenges due to heavy rains.
