Mumbai Metro Line 9 Update: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has announced that the Metro Line 9 between Dahisar East and Mira Bhayandar will be inaugurated on April 6. He said the new service will bring much-needed relief to residents in the area, as it addresses a long-standing demand.

Speaking to news agency PTI on Friday, Sarnaik said that the inauguration got delayed due to several factors. "We were waiting for the safety nod first, which we have received. Now the inauguration date is set for April 6 for the inauguration of the route," he added.

The launch of Metro Line 9 is expected to coincide with the inauguration of four stations on Metro Line 2B, which will connect Mandale to Diamond Garden in Chembur, further enhancing connectivity across the city.

Mumbai Metro Line 9: Check Route, Stations, And More

- According to a report by Times Now, the first phase of Metro Line 9 will connect Mira Bhayandar to the existing metro system, extending Line 7 beyond Dahisar East.

- Four stations, including Dahisar, Pandurang, Wadi and Mira Gaon, are fully constructed and ready for inauguration.

- Trial runs have been completed, and the safety clearance was granted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety earlier in January.

- Once operational, passengers will be able to travel from Kashigaon directly to Gundavali without needing to change trains.

Metro Line 9 To Boost Ridership

According to officials, the Metro Line 9 extension is likely to significantly increase ridership across the western suburban metro network. Currently, Metro Lines 2A and 7 record a combined daily ridership of around 3.4 lakh passengers, up from about 2.5 lakh in February 2025.

"Ridership will increase by at least 50,000 and could go up to one lakh, as the metro will provide an alternative to the heavily congested Dahisar toll naka stretch on the Western Express Highway," The Indian Express quoted an official from the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited as saying.
