Mumbai Rains: Man Dies After Falling Into Open Manhole In Sakinaka; Driver Escapes After Autorickshaw Submerges In Andheri

Mumbai Rain: In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a man died after falling into an open manhole during maintenance work in Sakinaka area on Thursday. As per the officials, the workers had removed the manhole cover to carry out the maintenance work at the site. The man could not see the manhole reportedly due to the waterlogging and fell allegedly while using his mobile phone.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Traffic 

The authorities stated that while the workers tried to save him; however, they could not track him due to a surge in the water levels. The continuous rainfall in Mumbai has severely disrupted the vehicular movement in multiple regions. In a separate incident, an autorickshaw attempting to cross a subway in Andheri got stuck and began drowning on Thursday.

The water level surged significantly, leading to panic among the locals; however, the driver was rescued by the rescue workers. As per the eyewitnesses, the subway got filled with water within a few minutes due to the continuous rainfall. The auto driver, unable to assess the situation, tried to cross the subway. However, the vehicle got stuck in the middle and began drowning.

Locals Rescue Autorickshaw Driver

The auto driver tried to escape the situation but was not able to move the vehicle, leading to panic, reported Jagran. The people present at the site immediately began the rescue operation and pulled the driver out of the auto and took him to a safe place. The locals, while providing details, stated that the driver was reportedly rescued using ropes and human chain.

Amid the heavy waterlogging, the authorities have temporarily closed the Andheri subway to ensure safety for the commuters. The traffic police, in an advisory, asked the residents to take alternative routes and to maximize the use of public transportation to avoid any inconveniences. As per the reports, the fresh rainfall has severely affected the road and local train services at several sites.

IMD Issues Rain Alert 

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the capital city of Maharashtra will continue to witness heavy rainfall for the next few days. While the rainfall has provided relief from the heat by reducing the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, it also led to waterlogging in the lower regions.

The residents have been advised to follow the guidelines and limit their outings during the rainfall to avoid any inconveniences.
