Heavy rainfall has severely affected the lives and livelihoods in Mumbai. The city is witnessing waterlogging in several places, which has caused massive traffic snarls. The downpour began on July 24 and is still ongoing. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 68.1 mm of rain was recorded in Santa Cruz, 62.5 mm in Colaba and 120.4 MM in the Thane district.

The weather department has also issued a red alert for rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad in its 1 pm forecast.

Due to heavy rains, the Ulhas and Kalu Rivers have breached the danger mark in Thane. NDRF and local authorities in Thane have rolled out comprehensive rescue operations in the affected areas.

Several incidents of tree collapse, wall collapse and short circuits have been reported across the city.

Mumbai Weather: Services of flights and trains affected

Owing to the incessant rains, Mumbai locals are witnessing perpetual disruptions. Local train service has been delayed by 15-20 minutes and operations have been suspended on the Panvel-Chouk line.

The Chief public relations officer of the Central Railways said that local trains are running with speeds less than regular due to the reduced visibility caused by heavy rains and wind speeds.

Poor visibility has also severely affected flight operations in the city, and the flooding has spread to surrounding regions.

IndiGo has announced that continuous rain is causing occasional delays in their flight schedules. The airline is working to provide real-time updates to passengers and advises them to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Air India has also warned passengers about potential disruptions. Similarly, SpiceJet has mentioned that all flights departing from and arriving at Mumbai airport, as well as connecting flights, could be affected by the bad weather.

Mumbai Weather: Bus routes diverted

The BEST has redirected several bus routes from the Coastal Road to the Breach Candy-Kemps Corner-Babulnath-Marine Drive route following an accident involving a private vehicle inside the Coastal Road at 10:30 am. BEST officials stated that they are also diverting buses on additional routes. "There is water logging at Sheetal cinema and therefore, buses of route 7Ltd, 302, 303 are diverted between Shreyas cinema and Kurla depot via Eastern Express Highway, Amar Mahal and SCLR," a BEST official said.

Maharashtra CM Shinde Takes Stock Of Situation

As the state of Maharashtra faces the effects of continuous rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday took stock of the situation. CM called the Raigad collector and told him to help all flood-affected people and assured him of all help. He also asked people to move to safer places.

BMC declares holiday for schools and colleges:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a holiday for schools and colleges in the city amid IMD’s red alert alert for heavy rain. The municipal corporation has appealed to schools to inform parents and take necessary precautions, an official said citing an official.
