Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project:India's maiden high-speed rail project, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, has made notable progress. The train spanning 508 km, covering Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra, has completed nearly 60 per cent of the viaduct construction.
The 508 km-long corridor—352 km in Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and 156 km in Maharashtra—will feature 12 stations, connecting major nodes including Mumbai, Thane, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.
Latest Developments shared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on Mumbai Ahmedabad bullet train, as of 18 April 2025, revealed the key construction Milestones. The project has made significant strides, with the completion of 293 km of viaducts, 375 km of piers, and 394 km of pier foundations. Additionally, 320 km of girders have been cast, and 14 river bridges have been finished across districts such as Valsad, Navsari, Kheda, and Surat. Furthermore, the construction of 7 steel bridges and 5 prestressed concrete bridges has also been completed, showcasing the project's engineering expertise and adaptability to diverse terrain.
Gujarat Section Ahead In Construction Work
Progress of around 143 km of track bed construction has been achieved so far in Gujarat.
3 lakh noise barriers have been installed over 150 km.
Rail welding work for 200-meter-long track panels is in progress.
Over 100 overhead equipment masts (OHE) have been installed between Surat and Bilimora bullet train stations.
Six of the eight stations have completed their structural work.
Maharashtra Focuses On Tunnelling And Underground Work
The 21 km tunnel between BKC and Shilphata has achieved 3.3 km of cumulative tunnel heading using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
Seven mountain tunnels are also being executed in the Palghar district.
Vikhroli and Sawli shafts have reached the required depths of 56 and 39 meters, respectively.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project aims to change the travel game between the two metro cities, reducing the journey time to approximately two hours.
