The mystery surrounding the discovery of a blood-stained body in the bathroom of Rose Garden, Sector-16, is deepening. While the police initially treated the incident as a murder and registered a case against unknown persons, subsequent evidence has pointed toward a possible suicide. Forensic experts are currently examining fingerprints on the recovered knife, and the victim's mobile call records are being analysed. These findings are expected to reveal whether the death was a murder or a suicide.

Victim Profile And Background

The deceased, 30-year-old Diksha Thakur, was an employee at a TV channel. Her husband, Ritvik Thakur, is an IT engineer, and the couple has a three-year-old son. Due to marital disputes, Diksha had been living separately in a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Mohali for the past six months.

Her in-laws reside in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where she had visited 15 days ago to meet her son. Police suspect that she may have taken this extreme step due to depression, a theory supported by the discovery of depression medication in her possession.

Timeline Of Events

On Saturday, Diksha left her office around 2:00 pm, claiming she was feeling unwell. However, instead of returning to her accommodation, she went to Rose Garden. News of her death emerged shortly after, around 3:00 pm.

Why Murder Was Initially Suspected

The incident came to light when a female tourist entered the bathroom around 3:00 pm and ran out screaming after seeing the blood. She alerted traffic police personnel nearby. When the police arrived, they found Diksha lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit by a knife. The police initially suspected murder because of the nature of the wound; the throat had been cut in a manner that made self-infliction seem unlikely.

How The Suicide Angle Emerged

The direction of the investigation shifted after police found all of Diksha’s belongings, including her purse and mobile phone, at the scene. The blood-stained knife was also recovered on the spot. Investigators noted that a murderer would not typically leave the weapon behind or fail to destroy evidence.

Furthermore, the caretaker stationed outside the bathroom did not report seeing anyone running away. CCTV footage from the area showed Diksha entering the garden alone. Given that depression medication was found in her purse, police are now considering the possibility that the distress caused by her strained marriage and separation from her son may have driven her to end her life.
