West Bengal Police on Sunday arrested one of the main accused behind the killing of a father-son duo during the anti-Waqf law protest in Murshidabad. A senior police officer stated that this is the fourth arrest in the double murder case that occurred in Jafrabad, Shamsherganj. The arrested individual has been identified as Jiaul Sheikh, a resident of Sulitala Purbapara. Sheikh had been absconding since the incident on April 12.
Jiaul worked as a door-to-door clothes vendor. Police are probing the reason for his involvement in the murder. The Special Task Force (STF) and Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Sheikh from his hideout in Chopra, located in Uttar Dinajpur district.
The officer, cited by Jagran.com, said that Sheikh was one of the prime accused who conspired and incited a mob to vandalise the home of Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das and subsequently murder them on April 12. Police claim to have several pieces of evidence proving his presence at the crime scene, including CCTV footage and mobile phone data.
Earlier, police arrested two brothers, Kalu Nadar and Dildar, along with another man named Injamam-ul-Haq, in connection with the murders. Kalu was arrested in Murarai in Birbhum district, while his brother Dildar was apprehended near the Bangladesh border in the jurisdiction of the Suti police station.
