Following the tragic collapse of a four-story building in the Dayalpur area of Mustafabad, which claimed 11 lives, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a comprehensive survey of buildings across the national capital. The initiative, which began on Sunday, aims to identify structurally unsafe buildings as well as those rising five to six stories high.
In the wake of the incident, disciplinary action has also been taken against officials. Junior Engineer (JE) Ravi Kumar Singh has been transferred and served a show-cause notice, while another JE, Faizan Raza, has been dismissed from service, as per Jagran.com.

According to the Municipal Corporation, 15 dangerous buildings have been identified so far, and the survey will continue on Monday. The corporation stated that these buildings have structures that are not capable of bearing loads and could result in loss of life and property.
In its official statement, the corporation mentioned that JE Ravi Kumar Singh has been transferred from the zone to another wing and served a show-cause notice to ensure an impartial investigation.
Another JE Faizan Raza has been dismissed due to facing multiple disciplinary actions in the past. He was terminated from service in one such previous case.
The corporation also stated that disciplinary action is being taken against three other officials in the building department. They will either be forcibly retired or dismissed from service.
Additionally, the corporation has sealed a building in the affected area due to illegal construction. This includes two shops and three residential units. One illegally constructed structure is also in the process of being demolished. According to MCD officials, a survey is being conducted in the Nehru Vihar ward, as it is a densely populated area.
However, this issue is not limited to Nehru Vihar. Areas like Karawal Nagar, Seelampur, Seemapuri, Nand Nagri, Shahdara, Mandawali, Gandhi Nagar, Bhajanpura, Trilokpuri, Laxmi Nagar, Pandav Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Burari, Kirari, Palam, Bawana, Narela, Sultanpuri, and Mangolpuri are facing similar issues.

A major reason behind this is the failure of agencies to meet the high residential demand. The government has not been able to provide adequate housing for the growing number of people coming to Delhi, resulting in the growth of unauthorised colonies.
