JE News Desk: A maid from Myanmar who stabbed her employer’s 70-year-old mother-in-law from India 26 times in 2018, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in Singapore.
The accused identified as Zin Mar Nwe was found guilty of murder after intentionally inflicting many fatal stab wounds on the victim, as reported by The Straits Times. She was sentenced on July 4 after she admitted that she had stabbed the victim as many as 26 times in anger after the woman threatened to send her back to the agent.
The court sentenced Zin to life imprisonment after hearing that on June 25, 2018, the two ladies were alone in the flat. The accused grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim several times. Following this, she left with some cash and went to her agency to ask for her passport, where she was arrested a few hours later.
Following her arrest, she denied stabbing the elderly woman, but later admitted her crime, according to the report. Zin Mar New said that she found it difficult to get along with the elderly woman. She also alleged that she was assaulted by the elderly woman when she did not understand what the woman wanted her to do.
According to the report, the elderly woman initially used her knuckles to knock the maid on the head and back two to three times a day on average. She later began to use things such as ladles.
