Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has claimed that Bengaluru is saving nearly 10 lakh litres of water daily. Taking to X, the Karnataka Deputy CM said, "Namma Bengaluru saves 10 crore litres of water every day".

He added that over 15 lakh aerators have been installed across the city by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB).

After the BWSSB mandated the installation of aerators last year, the adoption has seen a significant rise, according to a report by The Times of India.

Aerators have also been fitted to the taps at premises with massive consumption, including public offices, apartments, schools and malls, among others.

Shivakumar further claimed that the aerators have reduced water flow from 10-15 litres per minute to just 3-4 litres per minute. "1000 schools are joining hands under Mission Schools 10 MLD," he added.

Emphasising the strict measures taken for aerator installation by bulk users, the Karnataka Deputy CM said that BWSSB has been strictly monitoring the installation by such users.

In case of compliance failure, there is a provision of Rs 5,000 penalty. For such users, the water supply may also be reduced. The aerators' installation efforts were strongly made after the city faced one of the worst water crises in recent times last year.

Aerators are devices that are fitted to the taps to reduce the discharge volume of water without affecting the pressure. It is a low-cost device which helps in saving water.
