Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results: India is likely to invite the leaders of several neighbouring countries, including Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the upcoming weekend. Modi is all set to take charge as the prime minister for the third consecutive term with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
Leaders from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius are expected to be among the foreign dignitaries invited to the ceremony. Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has already accepted Modi's invitation, according to the media division of the Sri Lankan President's office. "During the conversation, Prime Minister @narendramodi invited President Wickremesinghe to his swearing-in ceremony, which President @RW_UNP accepted," it said.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also agreed to attend the swearing-in ceremony after receiving a phone call from Modi. Other leaders likely to be invited include Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.
The leaders of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries attended Modi's first swearing-in ceremony in 2014. In 2019, the leaders of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries were invited.
Modi tendered his resignation as prime minister on Wednesday and will take oath for the third consecutive time on Saturday, June 8. The NDA passed a resolution unanimously to elect Modi as their leader, and a letter was signed by 21 leaders during a key meeting held at his official residence in Delhi.
The final count for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was concluded on June 4, with the BJP securing 240 seats and Congress 99. Despite not reaching the 272-seat majority on its own, the BJP will form the government with the support of its NDA allies. The NDA won 293 seats while the INDIA bloc got 232.
