The district administration of Narmada issued an order to close all educational institutions including government and private schools, colleges and ITIs on Monday as a precautionary measure against the flood situation in the region.
The water level in the Narmada River has risen after 23 out of 30 gates of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam in Kevadia were opened to release 5.5 lakh cusecs of water on Saturday.
Several villages along the river bank in Narmada, Bharuch and Vadodara districts have been put on alert and SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations. The Narmada Corporation is trying to maintain the water level in the dam and reduce the impact of floods.
The district administration of Vadodara has also asked the people living in low-lying areas near the river to move to safe places as there is a possibility of 19 lakh cusecs of water being released from the dam on Sunday night. The villages of Dabhoi, Shinor and Karjan tehsil are among the most vulnerable areas in the district.
