Narottam Mishra Ticket Row: A huge controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denied ticket to former state home minister and senior leader Narottam Mishra for the upcoming assembly by-election in Datia. While several senior leaders in the region resigned in a gesture of disagreement, the supporters blocked NH-44 and pelted stones at the police officials, injuring many.

Mishra's Supporters Block Highway

While providing details, Datia Superintendent of Police Mayur Khandelwal stated that over 3,000 protestors attempted to disrupt the city's peace in the evening hours of Friday. They first attempted to close markets in the region and then blocked the highway at around 6 pm. The blockage of highway left vehicles stranded on the route for hours, leading to inconveniences. 

As per the officials, the protestors refused to clear the road and created ruckus despite being approached numerous times. Khandelwal further stated that the protesters suddenly began heavy stone pelting on the police officials in the early hours of Saturday.

Several Police Officials Injured

He further stated that police had to fire tear gas shells to control the situation; however, Mishra's supporters intensified their attacks. At least six police officials got severely injured in the violent attck and were rushed to a nearby hospitals. Apart from this, SP Mayur Khandelwal and Additional Superintendent of Police were also injured.

The district administration has clarified that road blockades and disruption to other necessary services will not be tolerated under any circumstances. As per the reports, the police have detained several individuals in connection with the incident. The officials are clearing the congestion on the highway and a heavy police force has been deployed in the whole city to maintain the law and order.

Earlier on Friday, the saffron party fielded Ashutosh Tiwari from Datia instead of Mishra, leading to chaos in the constituency. BJP district president Raghuveer Singh Kushwaha has sent his collective resignation to the party's state president, Hemant Khandelwal.
