Maharashtra News: In a tragic incident, four people died after drowning in the Gangapur Dam in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Thursday. As per the reports, the deceased include three minor cousins and a young woman. While providing details, the Disaster Management Department stated that the deceased were the residents of Sawargaon. The reports suggest that some of them died while attempting to save the others. The officials stated that a detailed probe has been launched into the matter.
As per the reports, the deceased have been identified as Ganesh Gotarne (16), Sahil Gotarne (16), and Nikhil Gotarne (16). Apart from this, the woman has been identified as Mayuri Jadhav (21), a resident of Talegaon Anjaneri. The Gotarne family had reportedly invited relatives for a traditional community feast on Thursday. Mayuri Jadhav, following the meal, expressed a desire to visit the Gangapur Dam.
The report suggests that the group entered the water upon reaching the dam and began the fun activities. While they looked comfortable with the water level initially, there was a lack of awareness of the depth and the deep pits hidden beneath the surface. One of the teenagers suddenly went into the deepest part and began drowning while playing in the water, leading to panic among the others.
While trying to save the drowning teenager, others also crossed the safety mark and began drowning. While one of the family members managed to save a young woman, the other three teenagers and Mayuri Jadhav drowned in the deep water, the report added.
The teenager, who escaped the scene, ran back to the village and informed the locals about the incident. The villagers launched a search operation using boats and other available resources and eventually recovered all four bodies. As per the reports, the injured woman has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
