Rajasthan Police said that they are interrogating the cow vigilante Monu Manesar who is an accused in the double-murder case in which two muslim men from Rajasthan were burned to death in Bhiwani, Haryana in February this year.
"We have produced him before the court and the court has sent him to two days of police remand. Presently, He is being interrogated by the Police," said Deeg's superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay on Wednesday.
Officials also said that a case was registered against him along with four others in Deeg's Gopalganj police station which comes in the Mewat region. He is presently lodged in Mathura Gate Police station in Bharatpur, said SP Upadhyay.
“We are not in a position to say that he was directly or indirectly responsible for the murders in Bhiwani. On Thursday, police will present him to the court and decide whether to place him on police remand,” added the official.
Manesar-who also goes by the name Mohit Yadav- is a former Bajrang Dal functionary. He was arrested on Tuesday from Haryana following an 8-month-long chase after the double-murder. Some reports also connected him to the violence in Nuh in which six people including two home guards were killed.
Haryana Police picked him up from sector 1 of Gurugram's Manesar and handed him over to the Rajasthan Police after the latter obtained a transit remand from a court in Nuh. Later, he was produced before a court in Bharatpur which sent him to a two-day police remand.
Who is Monu Manesar
Monu Manesar is a Haryana based cow vigilante who is famous for his inflammatory videos on social media. Known for heading cow vigilante groups in Haryana and Rajasthan, he has also been involved in drives against Love Jihad, the practice of alleged conversion of Hindu women by Muslim men in the pretext of marriage. Manesar gained notoriety after the murder of Junaid and Nasir, both residents of Ghatmeeka village in Bharatpur, allegedly by a group of cow vigilantes.
