Former Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday hailed India saying the countries around have reached the moon but Pakistan has still 'not risen' from the earth. Sharif was addressing the party cadre ahead of the national elections. Pointing out towards poor economic health of the country, former Pak PM said their country was itself responsible for its downfall.

"Our neighbours have reached the moon but we haven't even risen from the ground so far. It can't keep going on like this. We have been responsible for our downfall, otherwise, this nation would have reached a different place," he said.

Sharif is Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) prime ministerial candidate. He is running for the post for the fourth time. "In 2013, we were facing severe load shedding of electricity, we came and ended it, ended terrorism from all over the country, restored the peace of Karachi, highways were built, CPEC came, and a new era of development and prosperity began," he said in his address.

Taking about inflation in cash-strapped Pakistan, Sharif said a roti was available for Pakistani rupee PKR 2 in Aabpara, Islamabad during his tenure in 2014, which now has reached PKR 30.

Sharif claimed fake cases were registered against him, Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders.

Noting that he was unceremoniously ousted from power in 2017 at PML-N's parliamentary board meeting in Lahore, Sharif said accountability should be fixed. "I have no right to pardon those who are the enemy of the people," he said while calling for the conspirators' names to be brought forward, The News International reported.
