Vinod Rathod, Mumbai: A fresh controversy has erupted within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over the appointment of Sunetra Pawar as the party's national president. Senior leader and National Secretary Sachchidanand Singh has sent a legal notice to the party leadership, alleging that the appointment process violated the party's constitution and organisational rules.
The development has exposed fresh internal differences within the party and poses a challenge to the leadership.
The legal notice challenges the organisational election process and seeks to have Sunetra Pawar's appointment declared "illegal, non-existent, and void."
Following the split in the Nationalist Congress Party in 2023, Ajit Pawar assumed the post of national president. After his demise, the party announced Sunetra Pawar's appointment as national president. However, several senior party leaders have now raised objections to the decision.

In the legal notice, Sachchidanand Singh alleges that the procedure followed to appoint the national president was not in accordance with the party's constitution. The notice demands the immediate cancellation of Sunetra Pawar's appointment and calls for a fresh selection process in accordance with the party's constitution. It also warns that if the demand is not met, the matter will be taken to court.
So far, the Nationalist Congress Party leadership has not issued any official response to the legal notice. However, the development has once again intensified speculation over internal dissent and factionalism within the party. Attention is now focused on how the leadership will respond to the controversy.
