Neeraj Chopra clinched a silver medal in men's javelin throw at the Paris Olympics on Thursday with a best throw of 89.45 meters. Following his win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Chopra and said that he will "continue to inspire countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud".
"Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! Time and again, he has demonstrated his brilliance. India is thrilled that he has returned with yet another Olympic success. Congratulations to him on winning the silver. He will continue to inspire countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud," wrote PM Modi on X and shared a picture of Neeraj Chopra from the Olympics.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also hailed Neeraj for his brilliant performance and wrote, "A big congratulations to the exceptional athlete, Neeraj Chopra, for his amazing achievement in the Men’s javelin throw at Paris Olympics 2024 and winning the Silver Medal. He is an epitome of hard work, dedication and consistency. His success has delighted the entire nation."
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X in Hindi, "Well done Neeraj! Hearty congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for winning the silver medal in the javelin throw competition at the Paris Olympics 2024! This has been possible only because of your unprecedented faith, unwavering devotion to the goal and infinite enthusiasm. We are all proud of you, your Vijay Yatra is a source of inspiration for countless youth."
Every Athlete Have Their Day: Neeraj Chopra
After securing a win, silver medalist Neeraj Chopra, who also became the second male athlete to win two Olympic medals in an individual event, said that it's now time to improve the game.
"We all feel happy whenever we win a medal for the country...It's time to improve the game now...We will sit and discuss and improve the performance...India played well (at the Paris Olympics)....The competition was good (today)...but every athlete have their day, today was Arshad's day...I gave my best but some things need to be looked upon and worked upon...Our national anthem may not have been played today, but it will definitely be played somewhere else in the future," said Neeraj.

Congress Hails Neeraj Chopra
The Congress on Friday hailed Neeraj Chopra after he became the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two successive Olympic medals with a silver in men's javelin throw.
"Once a champion, always a champion! Many Congratulations, @Neeraj_chopra1 on your phenomenal achievement!" Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X.
"Winning the Silver Medal in the Men's Javelin Throw event at the Paris 2024 Olympics is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and unwavering passion. You've made India proud once again!" the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said.
"Your remarkable 89.45m throw has not only earned you a podium finish but also inspired a nation," Kharge said.
"Keep shining and reaching new heights. Cheers to your success!" he added.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also lauded Chopra for the feat.
"Congratulations on your Silver medal after a spectacular performance throughout the Paris Olympics 2024," Gandhi said on X.
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem Won Gold
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters, breaking the previous Olympic record held by Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen in Beijing in 2008.
Nadeem's performance included a final attempt of 91.79 meters, demonstrating his dominance in the event. On his second try, Nadeem hit a throw of 92.97m to win gold in the men's javelin throw final.
