As commotion over the uncertainties in NEET and UGC-NET exams mounts, the Centre has formed a seven-member high-level committee to oversee the transparency and the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the agency responsible for conducting the medical entrance exam. The panel is likely to meet today to hold deliberations over the issue, news agency ANI reported citing sources.

Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Education announced the establishment of a high-level committee of experts. The committee's mandate includes proposing reforms to the examination process, enhancing data security protocols, and reviewing the operations of the NTA.

The seven-member committee, led by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan, includes Dr Randeep Guleria, Professor BJ Rao, Professor Ramamurti Ke, Pankaj Bansal, Aditya Mittal, and Govind Jayaswal. The committee will discuss impartial management at NTA to effectively implement suggested reforms. The meeting will emphasise clear roles and better accountability for employees at all levels. The committee will submit its report within two months.

Additionally, the committee will examine the current security protocols related to setting papers and other processes during examinations. Alongside this, the committee will have to make recommendations to strengthen the system.

The NTA, responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exams, is under scrutiny due to purported irregularities in the exams. This has led to widespread protests nationwide, with demonstrators and political parties calling for the dissolution of the NTA. This time, an unprecedented occurrence was witnessed in the NEET exam where 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720 marks, further heightening concerns.
