The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the extension of the NEET PG (Post Graduation) exam to August 3 after receiving a request from the National Board of Examination (NBE). While the examination was earlier scheduled on June 15, the board had requested extra time for implementing the changes directed by the apex court. However, a bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Augustine George Masih emphasised that the board will not get any further extension in this regard.
Earlier on May 30, the apex court had ordered that the NEET PG examination be held only in a single shift. The NBE moved an application in the top-court seeking an extension to reschedule the examination. However, the bench asked why the board needs an addition time of two months to conduct the exam. "You want time till August 3? Why so much time?," Justice Mishra asked, reported Live Law. "You haven't started the process even. The order was passed on May 30. What have you done after that? This is delaying. Why you need two months?" he further asked.
While the court allowed the board to conduct the exam on August 3, it mentioned that there will not be any further delay in the examination process. While submitting an application in the court, the NBE had stated that they have a very little time to execute the changes suggested by the court, adding that the board needs extra time for the changes.
