The Centre submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court on Wednesday evening regarding the NEET-UG case, with the report submission deadline ending on the same day, according to LiveLaw. The affidavit stated that the centre refutes claims of "mass malpractices" in the NEET-UG exam. The Supreme Court had previously heard a series of petitions concerning the problematic NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam, which included allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities during the May 5 test and requests for the exam to be conducted again.

The affidavit says that the NTA has carried out an analysis of the distribution of marks among candidates in NEET-UG 2024 at the national, state, and city levels, as well as the centre level. This analysis indicates that the distribution of marks is quite normal, and there seems to be no extraneous factor that would influence the distribution of marks.

The Centre also stated that data analysis conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras shows there is no indication of mass malpractice or any localised group of candidates benefiting, which would result in abnormal scores.

The Centre further added counselling will be conducted in four rounds starting in the third week of July. For any candidate, if it is found that he/she has been the beneficiary of any malpractice, the candidature of such person would be cancelled at any stage during the counselling process or even afterwards, it says.

The National Testing Agency submitted its affidavit to the Supreme Court just a day before it is scheduled to hear 43 petitions from across the country related to the NEET UG paper leak case.
The Supreme Court, noting that the integrity of NEET-UG 2024 has been "compromised," indicated on Monday that a re-test might be ordered if the entire process is found to be impacted. The court had earlier requested detailed information from the National Testing Agency and the CBI, including the timing and method of the leak, as well as the number of individuals involved, to assess the extent of the breach.
