NEET-UG Row: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and Centre, seeking a response to pleas relating to alleged paper leaks and malpractices in NEET-UG, 2024. "If there is 0.001 per cent negligence on the part of anyone it should be thoroughly dealt with," the apex court observed.

Amid ongoing controversy over the NEET exam, the Centre recently informed the top court that a decision has been taken to cancel the grace marks awarded to 1,563 students. It also that the students, who were given grace marks, will be given the option to take a re-test on June 23. The results of the re-test will be declared on June 30 and the counselling for admission in MBBS, BDS, and other courses will start on July 6.

The NEET-UG exam was held on May 5 and the results were released on June 4, prior to the scheduled June 14 date. The NEET-UG, managed by NTA, serves as a crucial gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other allied courses in both government and private institutions across the country.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also accepted that there were some irregularities in some places. If the senior officials of NTA are found guilty in this, then strict action will be taken against them, he said.

The controversy over NEET-UG erupted after 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, all sharing the coveted All India Rank (AIR) 1. This unprecedented number of perfect scorers has led to widespread discussions within the educational community.
