A special team has been formed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-UG exams 2024, said CBI on Sunday. The special teams are reaching Patna in Bihar and Godhra in Gujarat, where local police cases have been registered.

"CBI has registered a criminal case and initiated an investigation. Special teams have been formed by the CBI to investigate the matter on top priority. Special CBI teams are being sent to Patna and Godhra where local police cases have been registered", the CBI said in a statement.


This comes after the central government directed the CBI to conduct a thorough inquiry into alleged anomalies in the NEET-UG test 2024.

"National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET(UG) Examination on May 5, 2024 in OMR (Pen and paper) mode. Certain cases of alleged irregularities/cheating/impersonation/malpractices have been reported. For transparency on the conduct of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, after a review has decided to entrust the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for comprehensive investigation. Central Government has also enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, to prevent unfair means in public examinations and to provide for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto," the government said.

It further added that the government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interest of students, adding that strict action will be taken against anyone who will be found guilty.

Meanwhile, in other significant development, at least 63 candidates were debarred from all over the country over malpractices in UG-NEET 2024 exam. According to the National Testing Agency, 17 candidates from Bihar have been debarred for malpractices during the NEET examination and 30 candidates from centres in Godhra have been debarred.
