NEET-UG 2024: Around 50 per cent of the aspirants remained absent in the re-examination of NEET UG 2024 held on Sunday. The re-exam was held for the students bestowed upon with grace marks by the National Testing Agency. According to the NTA, 750 out of 1563 students remained absent in the retest. The retest was held across the country after the NTA review committee recommended the removal of grace marks and a re-exam of NEET UG 2024 for such students.

The exam was conducted in six cities in the presence of officials from the Union Education Ministry as well as the National Testing Agency. The poor turnout of the students came amid the row over irregularities in the NEET UG exam and the result which was announced on June 4. Notably, NTA had awarded grace marks to around 1563 students on account of time loss compensation. Later, allegations of the paper leak also surfaced when Bihar Police arrested several individuals, who allegedly sold the NEET paper to a few aspirants for Rs 30 Lakh each.

NEET UG 2024: Many Debarred For Malpractices

National Testing Agency has also announced that it debarred over 60 students across the country from the exam over the use of malpractices. 17 candidates from Bihar have also been ousted from the exam process following the revelation of a paper leak racket in the state. In Gujarat, 30 aspirants have been debarred from the NEET UG exam.

NEET UG 2024 Latest Update

Amid the NEET UG row and NTA's decision to cancel the UGC-NET exam citing apprehensions of another paper leak, the central government on Saturday night removed Director General Subodh Kumar Singh, a 1997-batch IAS officer, from the top post. His removal came after allegations of gross mismanagement on parts of NTA surfaced.

In another surprising move, the Union Health Ministry announced the cancellation of NEET-PG 2024 on Saturday, a day ahead of the exam date. The ministry termed it a 'precautionary' move aimed at preserving the 'sanctity' of the exam. It also said that new dates for the re-exam will be announced soon.
