NEET-UG 2024 Row: The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its judgment today, giving reasons for not cancelling the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG 2024) exam amid the allegation of paper leak and other irregularities. Earlier on July 23, the top court had rejected the plea for a re-test and said that detailed reasons would be given later.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud had observed that conducting a fresh exam would have serious consequences as it would affect more than 24 lakh students who appeared in this examination. The apex court also observed that there was no systematic leak of the NEET-UG question paper and refused a re-test.
The top court also said that directing a fresh exam would have serious consequences for over 2 million students who had appeared for the NEET-UG exam on May 5. It clarified that its judgment will not prevent authorities from taking action against candidates who had secured admission using malpractices.
Additionally, it also asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to re-tally the marks in light of the expert panel's opinion from IIT Delhi over a controversial physics issue, which stated that two options cannot be considered the right answers to a question.
